Story Analysis

Plot Progression

1. A Message from the Dead — Simon learns of Eric's suicide and meets Max at the funeral. Max asks Simon to decode Eric's encrypted message, drawing Simon into a dangerous investigation.
2. Tracing the Hidden Network — Simon opens Eric's message and studies cryptic footage with Max. Their search leads from a woman's house to the dead hacker Steven and to Grace.
3. Curfew and Loss — Grace guides the investigators toward an anti-Vopo safe house, but the search yields little. At Grace's home, personal revelations are followed by her violent killing.
4. The Architect's Warning — Paul Bateson confronts Simon about the investigation and defends Vopo's emphasis on stability. Simon and Max nevertheless decode Tom's invitation to seek other surviving cities.
