Tamar Rabinyan is a Jewish Iranian-born Mossad agent and computer hacker raised in Israel. She infiltrates Tehran to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program, survives repeated betrayals and pursuit, and continues fighting after her orders are revoked. Her missions place her in direct conflict with Faraz Kamali and bring her into alliances with Milad, Marjan Montazeri, and Eric Peterson. Faraz Kamali (played by Shaun Toub) is a protagonist in Tehran.
Faraz Kamali heads investigations for the Revolutionary Guards and relentlessly hunts Tamar Rabinyan across Tehran. Although committed to Iran, he becomes compromised through his wife’s connection with Marjan Montazeri and eventually bargains with Yulia Magen to protect his family. He reluctantly assists Tamar’s final effort before dying in the explosion that destroys the nuclear prototype. Milad (played by Shervin Alenabi) appears in Tehran.
Milad becomes Tamar Rabinyan’s ally after she decides to remain in Tehran for another mission. He helps her pursue the assassination of the Revolutionary Guards leader and continues supporting her even after the official operation is cancelled. Milad is killed by a Mossad-planted car bomb, leaving Tamar isolated and trapped in Iran. Eric Peterson (played by Hugh Laurie) appears in Tehran.
Eric Peterson is a South African nuclear inspector who suspects that Iran is secretly building a nuclear weapon. After being arrested over a hidden camera, he is forced to help assemble the bomb, but later reveals that his apparent arrest was a ruse and that he has been working for Iran. He ultimately joins Tamar Rabinyan to remove the nuclear core and dies in the resulting explosion.
