Colton Burtenshaw (played by Josh Swickard) is a protagonist in Roped.
Colton is a promising young roper whose identity and ambitions are centered on rodeo. After winning first place, he works at a cowboy camp under Hank and hopes success will attract sponsors. He defends rodeo at a council meeting, but the event is canceled, leaving him devastated and in conflict with Tracy over a photograph. Tracy Peterson (played by Lauren Swickard) appears in Roped.
Tracy is the young woman connected to the debate surrounding Colton and the rodeo. She visits the cowboy camp, learns about the animals and the care they receive, and plans to study at UC Santa Cruz before becoming a lawyer. In the final exchange, she confronts Colton about using a photograph at the council meeting. Hank (played by Shane Graham) appears in Roped.
Hank supervises Colton at the cowboy camp and reacts to the practical problems surrounding his work, including Colton's unexplained four-hour absence. He jokes about Colton's difficulty making friends, later respects Colton's passionate defense of rodeo, and announces the show's cancellation while preparing the camp for a storm. Dylan (played by Spencer Neville) appears in Roped.
Dylan is a young man whose long-term relationship ends when his girlfriend says they have grown apart and will soon attend different colleges. His breakup provides a parallel story about changing futures, contrasting with Colton's determination to remain connected to his small-town rodeo life.
