Plot Progression

1. A Driver Under Strain — Ghalib's long nights on the highway and demanding work define his routine. The truck's mileage milestone offers little comfort, and a back injury does not stop him from pushing himself.
2. Grief Before the Council — After Etali's death, her sister and father come before the village council. Madam Sarpanch announces compensation, Ghalib offers more, and the family refuses.
3. Workplace Displacement — Changes among the drivers unsettle Ghalib and Dilbaug as younger workers receive opportunities. Dilbaug is pushed aside, and the men reflect on how rarely people truly listen to one another.
4. Memory and Economic Fear — A Kashmiri neighbour recalls Etali's warmth, energy, and emotional fragility. Ghalib gives a younger worker money and urges him to leave, revealing his own fear of losing the position he needs.
