How does District 9 end?

In the final act ("Sacrifice and Transformation"): Wikus overcomes his self-preservation instinct to rescue Christopher from execution. He makes a final stand against mercenaries, allowing the aliens to escape. The film concludes with Wikus fully transformed, crafting flowers for his wife.
