Alone Above the Clouds

The pilots and other adults are incapacitated, while Nicole survives with an oxygen mask. She discovers that the autopilot is defective and begins seeking help from Jeff.

Key Events

• Crew Incapacitated — The electrical shock knocks both pilots unconscious. Characters: Nicole Stone, Pilot Greg, Co-Pilot Terry Location: Cockpit
• First Aid Kit Impact — An unsecured first aid kit strikes the other adult passengers. Characters: Nicole Stone Location: Private plane cabin
• Oxygen Mask Recovery — Nicole regains consciousness because an oxygen mask is over her face. Characters: Nicole Stone Location: Private plane cabin
• Brief Passenger Awakening — The woman traveling with Nicole briefly wakes before becoming unconscious again. Characters: Nicole Stone Location: Private plane cabin
• Defective Autopilot — The autopilot switches on but is defective and cannot be deactivated normally. Characters: Nicole Stone Location: Cockpit
• Radio Contact — Nicole contacts Jeff in the tower through the aircraft radio. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Private plane and control tower
• Cell Phone Backup — After the radio fails, Nicole continues communicating with Jeff by cell phone. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Private plane

Rescue Against Turbulence

Jeff coordinates a tanker-aircraft rescue, but turbulence defeats the first approach. A second maneuver lets Nicole move the unconscious adults toward the hatch.

Key Events

• Tanker Rescue Plan — Jeff proposes using a tanker aircraft for the first rescue attempt. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Airspace
• Turbulence Disrupts Rescue — Turbulence prevents the tanker aircraft from safely approaching the private plane. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Airspace
• Tanker Moves Below — The tanker flies beneath the private jet for a different rescue approach. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Airspace below the private plane
• Adults Reach Hatch — Nicole drags the unconscious adults toward the hatch by the front wheel. Characters: Nicole Stone Location: Private plane cabin
• Three Adults Lowered — The rescue operation lowers three of the four adults from the private plane. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Between the two aircraft

The Final Manual Landing

A cable failure leaves Nicole aboard with one unconscious adult. She disables the autopilot with a baseball bat and attempts a landing while communication finally disappears.

Key Events

• Cable Breaks — Turbulence breaks the cable, and the man assisting the transfer is thrown from the plane but survives with a parachute. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Airspace between aircraft
• Nicole Remains Aboard — Nicole and the still-unconscious fourth adult remain aboard the aircraft. Characters: Nicole Stone Location: Private plane
• Baseball Bat Override — Nicole uses her father's favorite baseball bat to deactivate the defective autopilot. Characters: Nicole Stone Location: Cockpit
• Final Approach Guidance — Jeff guides Nicole as she begins the final approach. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Private plane approach path
• Battery Failure — Nicole's cell phone battery dies during the approach. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Private plane approach path
• Emergency Landing — Despite losing contact, Nicole successfully lands the plane under Jeff's prior instructions. Characters: Nicole Stone, Jeff, A.T.C. Location: Landing area
