Plot Progression

1. The Friend Only Amanda Sees — Amanda and Rudger share imaginative adventures while Lizzie doubts that Rudger exists. Their encounter with Mr. Bunting ends in Amanda's devastating car accident.
2. A Refuge Among Imaginaries — As Rudger begins to fade, he reaches a library sanctuary for endangered Imaginaries. Emily welcomes him and reveals the danger represented by Mr. Bunting.
3. The Hunter Closes In — Emily gives Rudger a new assignment, but Bunting tracks him to the child's home. Rudger escapes to Amanda's house and discovers both the source of his creation and Amanda's critical condition.
4. The Library's Lost Leader — Bunting traps Rudger and Emily inside an imaginary world. Emily is killed while helping the group escape, and the library's inhabitants quickly forget that she existed.
5. Imagination Against Fear — Rudger reaches Amanda's hospital room and awakens her through his voice. Amanda, Rudger, and Lizzie confront Bunting, defeat his attack, and face the consequences of Rudger's fading existence.
