A Kern County deputy and former LASD detective obsessed with an unsolved serial killer case. He assists Jimmy Baxter, investigates suspect Albert Sparma, and illegally searches his apartment. After Sparma's death, Deacon hides evidence and reveals his past cover-up of accidentally shooting a murder survivor. Haunted by his victims, he eventually sends Baxter a red barrette before burning the remaining evidence.
