A cynical, well-connected older man who seduces and rapes Lara. He repeatedly interferes with her life, including her marriage to Pasha. Later, he offers to smuggle Lara and Yuri out of Russia, deceiving them about the Cheka's plans and abandoning Lara on a train while she is pregnant by Yuri.
