A talented gunslinger and dentist who arrives in Fort Griffin, where he kills Ed Bailey in self-defense and escapes a lynch mob with Wyatt Earp's help. In Dodge City, he becomes Wyatt's deputy and partner, surviving a bank robbery ambush. Despite romantic tensions and taunts from Johnny Ringo, he maintains a code of restraint until forced to shoot Ringo. He follows Wyatt to Tombstone and fights alongside the Earps at the O.K. Corral while battling tuberculosis.
