Hypatia's slave who assists in her classes and secretly loves her. He is drawn to science but later joins the Christian forces amidst social unrest. After being freed by Hypatia, he struggles with his feelings and his new allegiance. When a Christian mob targets her, he attempts to warn her and ultimately kills her to spare her the agony of being stoned, claiming she fainted to the crowd.
Davus begins as Hypatia's enslaved assistant and academic aide.
