Former pupil of Hypatia who rises to become the Bishop of Cyrene. When Cyril stages a ceremony to subjugate Hypatia, Synesius arrives to defend her using his religious authority. However, he only offers protection on the condition that she accepts Christianity, which she steadfastly refuses.
