The protagonist and narrator. Raised at Hailsham with Tommy and Ruth, she becomes a post-operative carer after leaving the Cottages. She reunites with her childhood friends, becomes romantically involved with Tommy, and supports his search for a deferral. After his death, she begins her own donations while reflecting on her life.
