A customer Hattie marries to escape prostitution. He relocates to St. Louis and initially believes Violet is Hattie sister. Two weeks after Violet wedding to Bellocq, he arrives to claim her, arguing the marriage is invalid without parental consent, and later takes a family photograph at the train station.
