Holocaust survivor and former cabaret singer who returns to post-war Berlin with severe facial disfigurement. After unsuccessful plastic surgery, she inherits a fortune and is persuaded by her friend Lene to flee to Palestine. She secretly returns to Berlin, where her husband Johnny asks her to impersonate his late wife to claim the inheritance. She adopts the alias Esther, conceals her true identity, and eventually reveals herself through her singing and concentration camp tattoo.
