A young inmate who befriends Andy and Red. After Andy helps him pass his GED exam, Tommy reveals that his former cellmate confessed to the murder for which Andy was wrongly convicted. His attempt to secure Andy's release leads the warden to order his execution under the guise of an escape attempt.
Tommy becomes a close companion and confidant to Andy.
