An attractive young bookshop clerk who catches ex-con Jeffrey Hart stealing a book. She dates him and is coerced into blackmailing shop manager John Harman. After Harman's wife dies from a heart attack triggered by a blackmail letter Ruby wrote, Hart threatens her to continue demanding money. Ruby eventually retrieves £300 but is accidentally killed by Hart while hiding the money.
