One of two cowardly and greedy peasants who initially join the Yamana clan. After discovering hidden gold, he partners with Matashichi to guide General Rokurota and Princess Yuki across enemy territory. His selfish actions repeatedly endanger the group, but he survives the journey. At the end, he is arrested for arguing over the lost gold, receives a single ryō from the princess, and laughs at his ironic fortune.
