The protagonist on a journey of self-discovery. Raised by his grandmother Mammo after his mother Zubeidaa's abandonment, he spends the film searching for answers about her mysterious life. Through interviewing residents of Fatehpur and reading Zubeidaa's personal journal, he uncovers the truth behind her tragic death and finally reconciles with her memory.
