A non-Jesuit assistant who accompanies Father Laforgue on the arduous journey. He grows close to Annuka, causing discomfort for the celibate priest. When the group is betrayed and split up, Daniel chooses to stay with Annuka, following the Algonquins across the forest. He helps transport the injured Laforgue to the Huron village.
