The eldest daughter of the Starr boarding house. She dreams of escaping her small Mississippi town for New Orleans. Initially manipulative and eager to leave, she eventually falls in love with Owen Legate, marries J.J. Nichols out of desperation, steals his money and marriage license, and flees to New Orleans. Her tragic death leaves her sister Willie to wear her clothes and live alone.
