A violinist dismissed from the Paris Opera House due to hand injuries. He anonymously funds Christine Dubois's voice lessons and writes a piano concerto. After murdering publisher Maurice Pleyel in a misunderstanding, he is left horribly scarred by acid, dons a stolen mask, and becomes the Phantom of the Opera. He is later crushed to death during a cave-in in his lair.
