The film's protagonist, a middle-aged unemployed alcoholic and former steel mill worker. He is Johnny Wells' best friend but refuses to join the group's gun robbery due to his drunken state and support for non-violence. Later expelled from the revolutionaries, he briefly betrays Johnny to the police for reward money but is consumed by guilt. Ultimately hunted down and killed by his former comrades.
