The bull terrier protagonist who observes human behavior with detached judgment. He kills his first owner to join a young couple, neglects them after they have a baby, bonds with a Hitler-obsessed boy, and ultimately refuses a command to kill a classmate. He is eventually killed by the boy when he cannot disobey the heel command.
