Famous and narcissistic writer who has not published recently. He is a domineering father to Bertie and the late Felix. He hires Liam to proofread his unpublished novel, only to discover it was largely written by Felix. After Liam rewrites the ending by hand, J.M. confronts Liam, leading to a physical struggle where he attempts to drown Liam before drowning himself in the pond.
