Philosophy student deeply in love with Lenka. He secretly meets her in the park and gives her Mácha's May. He becomes an officer in the student legion, fights in Prague, and survives the uprising. He proposes to Lenka and gives a reflective toast to the fallen comrade Spina, warning future generations about vigilance.
