Orphan philosophy student devoted to Marinka. He tries to ask her to dance but fails, later confessing his loneliness to Vavřena. After failing his exams, he chooses to enter a monastery instead of repeating the year. He fights bravely at the Prague barricades, is mortally wounded, and sends a final greeting to Marinka before dying.
