The younger, unreligious successor to the town doctor. Initially unpopular and eager to leave, he falls for schoolteacher Faith Samuels. He warns Josiah about quarantining during the typhoid outbreak but later blames him, causing Josiah to withdraw. After healing townspeople and saving Faith, he reconciles with Josiah.
