A Vienna taxi driver dreaming of moving to the USA. After a jealous pianist murders an American businessman in his cab, Toni steals the victim's documents and assumes his identity. He later falls in love with Karen, successfully convinces her of his innocence regarding the murder, and attempts to flee to America with her. He is ultimately captured by police and receives a short prison sentence.
