The protagonist, an unemployed and divorced man living in the Welsh valleys. Facing cut benefits and estrangement from his son, he devises a scheme to travel to Denmark, commit a bank robbery, and enter prison for a better quality of life. After arriving and befriending locals, he abandons the crime, faces arrest for a replica gun incident, and ultimately decides to reconcile with his son and return to Denmark for a budding romance.
