A Thracian former Roman auxiliary who is enslaved, named Spartacus, and becomes a champion gladiator. After his wife Sura is killed and his friend Varro is forced into a lethal match, he leads a massive slave revolt, kills Batiatus, and commands his rebel army against Crassus.
