A young woman who becomes infatuated with author Jose Dalmarez and attempts to flee to Brazil with him. Years later, she is married to Hugh Conway and seeks to retrieve compromising letters and a book from Dalmarez to protect her reputation. During a confrontation at his house, she accidentally strikes him with a dagger, flees, and is later cleared of murder by Alvarez Salles.
