A popular Brazilian author who becomes the object of Vera Blaine's youthful infatuation and later woos Inez Salles in Brazil. After returning to the US, he visits Hugh Conway's law office for criminal law research and rekindles tension with Vera by threatening to expose her past letters. He is later attacked by Vera with a dagger but survives.
