The protagonist, also called Jake. She causes her brother Sean's drowning at the quarry out of fear, leading to lifelong survivor's guilt. She makes a dark pact with gypsy brothers to sacrifice Willie Proctor to resurrect Sean, but ultimately rejects murder and jumps into the quarry herself to save him, breaking the cycle of violence.
