Initially naive, he marries the gold-digging Lorna after she returns stolen money. He struggles with financial ruin, his black sheep brother Cinch, and the town's corrupt system. After ordering Lorna away and later reconciling with her upon learning of her pregnancy, he confronts the villains and ultimately restores his ranch and relationship.
