A corrupt Yankee tax commissioner who seizes control of the town during Reconstruction. He weaponizes usurious tax laws to confiscate large ranches, including Colt's. He orchestrates plots to eliminate Colt and Lorna by exploiting Lorna's past, and later attempts to murder Cinch to seize the ranch for himself. He is ultimately killed in the final confrontation.
