Gene is one of Gloria and Ray's children and the brother of Billy and Larry. In 1974, he climbs to the top of the drive-in screen with Doug and urinates from it. The ensuing family car crash leaves Gene brain-damaged and paralyzed from the neck down. His condition remains a source of anguish for the family, and he eventually dies in 1982; news of his death arrives while Billy and Doug are being questioned.
