Plot

During the early 1930s Weimar Republic, the Berlin Philharmonic struggles for funds due to the Great Depression. Violinist Alexander Schonath disappoints his father, one of the longest-serving members of the Berlin Philharmonic, by leaving to join the light music orchestra. As he works toward his eventual reconciliation with his father, Alexander begins a romance with Maria....
