Son of Kolya Ustyuzhanin. Returns as a teen in 1941, enlists in WWII, and becomes a decorated war hero. Decades later, he returns with an oil drilling crew, has a brief affair with Taya, and resigns over the dam project. He dies rescuing a coworker during an oil well blowout.
