A renowned anti-fascist philosopher and future democratic leader targeted by fascists. Initially escaping Primo’s first raid, he is captured but repeatedly manages to evade him using ingenuity, such as improvising explosives against German guards. He helps Primo navigate fascist checkpoints, negotiates the safety of a hiding poet, and ultimately fakes shooting Primo to save him from resistance fighters, before joining the Allied-backed resistance to prepare for post-war Italy.
