Colin Sullivan is a Massachusetts State Police officer secretly groomed and employed as the mole for Irish mob boss Frank Costello. He rises through the ranks while systematically sabotaging police operations and eliminating rivals. After Costello's death, Sullivan attempts to cover his tracks and frame a corrupt colleague, but is confronted by Billy Costigan. Despite briefly pretending to arrest him, he is ultimately executed by Sergeant Dignam after Costigan's funeral.
