Frank Costello is a ruthless Irish mob boss who operates in Boston. He systematically infiltrates law enforcement by grooming Colin Sullivan as his inside mole and recruiting Billy Costigan from prison. When the police close in, Costello attempts to negotiate a deal with the FBI to protect himself. He is ultimately cornered by Sullivan, admits his informant status, and is killed in the ensuing shootout.
