A young cub reporter who fills in for a senior colleague. He investigates Tom Evans, uncovers evidence against local racketeer Joseph Britt, and publishes the story. After being fired for being scooped on Evans' murder, he rescues George Taylor, gets captured, and is later rescued by police. His actions redeem him, earning a promotion and the means to marry Edith.
