Presents himself as the uncle of Lasher's young mistress, but is actually a leader of a Nazi spy ring in England. He discovers Barrolles is a fraud and knows the real Sir John is alive in a German POW camp. He blackmails Barrolles into transferring stolen gold to the spies, but is eventually arrested by Inspector Cork.
Lasher's assets and identity are exploited by Burnside's espionage operation.
Barrolles is forced into a reluctant partnership with Burnside under threat.
